April 8th: Hello Hashimoto’s – A holistic approach to understanding and managing autoimmune hypothyroidism
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is one of the most common autoimmune diseases in the Western world, with 10-15% of Australian adults testing positive for thyroid antibodies. Despite the overwhelming presence of Hashimoto’s in Australia, many patients find themselves lost, confused or overwhelmed by the diagnosis, as well as the concepts of autoimmune disease and potential lifelong thyroid hormone replacement. In my experience as a naturopath and as an individual with Hashimoto’s disease, those who adopt a holistic approach to understanding and managing the condition tend to experience the best clinical outcomes, reversing their thyroid symptoms and thriving long-term.
A diagnosis of Hashimoto’s is not a life sentence of weight gain, fatigue, dry skin and constipation. Between conventional and naturopathic approaches, we are fortunate to have a wide array of tools we can use to support thyroid function, reduce antibody titres, alleviate symptoms and ensure you can continue to feel vibrant and vital long-term. In this workshop, I’ll explain the ins and outs of Hashimoto’s by exploring:
- What is means to have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
- Diagnosis, symptoms and medical management
- The role of the thyroid gland and hormones such as TSH, T4 and T3
- Interpreting and understanding your blood test results
- Reverse T3 (what it is, what it does and how to address reverse T3 issues)
- Supporting thyroid function nutritionally and with herbal medicine
- Holistic approaches to lowering thyroid antibodies
- And so much more!
We are fortunate to have an extensive body of research to draw upon when it comes to understanding, managing and addressing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis holistically, and I am excited to share this research with you! If you’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, come along to take charge of your health, empower yourself with knowledge and get started on your journey to wellness.
